Hip Hop

Hip Hop dance is a very broad term and combines anything and everything from break dancing, popping, locking, funk and various street style dance. It is fun and upbeat, usually danced to hip hop or rap music. Hip Hop at MAPA focuses 80% on choreography, and 20% and the student's ability to freestyle.

Hip HopBeginning Hip Hop
All ages
Students learn how to stretch and warm-up their bodies, do strength exercise so that they can learn floor poses and "tricks." Warm-up is followed by cardio center work and combinations across the floor to develop style and rhythm. Each week, the class builds on a choreographed combination to promote memorization and performance.

Hip Hop I
All ages
This class is an introduction for students who are either just starting out or have minimal hip-hop experience. Class includes a warm-up which concentrates on building stamina, improving strength and flexibility, body conditioning and rhythm isolations. Level I focuses on building a foundation of basic hip-hop movements across the floor exercises and short combinations to today's popular music.

Hip HopHip Hop II
All ages
Level II is an intermediate class for students who have developed a foundation of basic hip-hop movements and sequences. Level II places more emphasis on body conditioning and transitions. This class focuses on developing an ear for rhythms and exploring syncopation through the music and choreography. Students will be expected to learn and execute a series of challenging combinations throughout the year. Teacher recommendation is required.
