Combination Tap/Jazz/Ballet Classes
Ages 6-9
A combination class beginning with a ballet barre or jazz warm-up, "across the floor" and "center floor" work leading toward a routine. The tap portion begins with the fundamental sounds of tap moving to a gradual building of rhythms and tap phrases. An ideal class for the young dancer wishing to experience both disciplines at a comfortable and enjoyable rate.
Broadway Dance
Ages 8+
Musical Theater involves lots of high energy, learning numbers from
Musicals and choreography to popular songs. Combining dance, singing, and
acting, all into one class, Musical Theater needs no previous experience.
Contemporary I
Ages 12+
This class will explore a wide range of contemporary vocabulary taught through a structured approach which includes Martha Graham based floor work for core strengthening, standing work which includes off-center and fall and recovery movements, and dance phrases that emphasize performance, musicality, and self expression.
PERFORMANCE GROUPS:
MAPA has several performance groups that are by audition only.
Auditions are held every May for the following school year. The performance groups are comprised of young dancers who are ready for a challenge and would like to perform various community and private events throughout the year. The class time is devoted to rehearsing dances for scheduled performances. Prior experience in both ballet jazz is mandatory. Members are required to participate in class rehearsals, a jazz class, and one more class of their choice. These requirements are necessary for building strength and refining technique at this level. Young dancers will improve their dance skills and build self-confidence while reaching out to their own community through dance.

- All performance group participants must purchase a MAPA Warm-up Uniform to be worn to and from all public performances. Uniforms are $55 and should be ordered through MAPA. Once purchased these uniforms are yours to keep!
- Black and beige laceless jazz shoes (Hip Hop Crews: black, grey and/ or white street sneakers- Converse recommended)
- Black camisole leotard
- Black "booty" shorts
- Black capri leggings
