Tap
The study of Tap promotes agility, musicality, rhythm and coordination using sound created by the dancers' shoes. It is a dance style that emphasizes quality of sound while moving through a gradual building of rhythms and tap phrases. MAPA�s classes feature both "Broadway" and "Jazz Tap" styles.
Dress Code:
- Fitted top or leotard
- jazz pants, shorts or leggings
- Black (patent or soft) taps (ribbon tie or lace-up style)
- No baggy clothes or jeans
- Hair in a ponytail- off the face!
Beginning Tap
All ages
A proper foundation of tap technique is established through barre exercises, creative movement and center floor studies. Special attention is given to total body placement and correct tap terminology is taught. Focus is on coordination and rhythm.
Tap I
All ages
A continuation of components and skills learned in Beginning Tap. The class includes added emphasis on technique, body placement, terminology and further development of varied rhythms.
Tap II
All ages
A continuation of tap in the traditional style, fundamentals of tap technique, and an introduction to jazz tap and rhythms. Previous training required.
Tap III
All ages
Focus is on clarity of sounds, creating understanding rhythms, increasing speed and developing style. This class will include intricate rhythms and footwork for experienced tappers. Creativity will be challenged through improvisational exercises. Previous training required.
