Disney’s High School Musical JR

This stage version of the hit Disney film tells the story of a high school where competing social groups learn to work together to help their friends succeed. Featuring high energy songs like "Getcha Head in the Game," and "We're All in This Together," this MAPA production is guaranteed to create lasting memories and friendships.

 
 

What is Musical Theatre Junior Company?

This class rewards the hardest working musical theatre students at MAPA with an opportunity to put their skills to work in a full musical production at the end of the semester.

How do students join the Musical Theatre Junior Company?

Students must audition to join Junior Company. Considerations at the audition include both skill level and behavioral disciplines. Every student accepted into the class is guaranteed a role in the company’s musical production and will receive a private link to register for the class upon acceptance.

Is there an age limit for auditioning?

Students must be 10-17 years old to audition for Musical Theatre Junior Company. Unless otherwise recommended by MAPA Teaching Artists, these age requirements include turning 10 years of age by May 5, 2024. Students turning 18 years old before May 5, 2024 will not be eligible to audition.

What is the time commitment?

Musical Theatre Junior Company will run as a regularly scheduled Academy Class at MAPA twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7 PM. The class will run consecutively for 15 weeks with the exception of Spring Break (March 17-23, 2024). Dress Rehearsals will be begin nightly on April 23rd with performances in MAPA’s Living Room running April 26-May 5, 2024. Times and tickets TBD.

* Due to construction of the new black box theater, MAPA will not be holding a Summer Musical Theatre Camp in 2024. Participants looking forward to this annual event are strongly encouraged to audition for Junior Company!

 

Meet our Director!

Jeffrey Scott Parsons is a MAPA teaching artist who has overseen our musical theatre classes for the past two years.

Mr. Jeff also continues to perform professionally over the world, most recently at Central City Opera Festival in Colorado this past summer. He was employed for six years by the Walt Disney Company at their parks and considers Mickey Mouse a close friend. As a director and choreographer his credits include Dames at Sea (LA Ovation nomination- Best Choreography, LA Stage Scene Award- Best Choreography), Freaky Friday, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Favorite onstage roles include Bill Calhoun in Kiss Me Kate, Mike in A Chorus Line, Ted Hanover in Holiday Inn, Riff in West Side Story, the Emcee in Cabaret (San Diego Critics Nomination- Best Leading Performance), and Molina in Kiss of the Spider Woman (Robby Award- Best Leading Actor).

He’s the creator and host of “A Musical Theatre Podcast” on the Broadway Podcast Network and is a proud member of Actors Equity and Musical Theatre Guild.
