MAPA is excited to bring another original musical to Maui students this fall. The Magic Wish Fish, written by Maui’s favorite storyteller Kathy Collins, is a 40-minute show designed for students in preschool and elementary school. The story shares a valuable lesson about aloha, gratitude, and living in harmony with others and nature.

This year’s show is completely FREE for all Maui preschools and elementary schools.

The Magic Wish Fish stars Kathy Collins, Thalyn Nikolau, and Francis Tau’a. The show is directed by David Johnston with sound engineering by Logan King.

MAPA’s Theatre for Young Audiences brings live, professional theatre directly into preschools and elementary schools all over the island. The performances feature age-appropriate humor, audience participation and clear and accessible story lines that offer a moral or life lesson. Chosen for their educational and artistic merit, the plays give students a full theatrical experience.

K-12 Classroom Residencies

 
 

Through generous grants and donations, MAPA’s professional teaching artists conduct ongoing residencies integrating the performing arts into classroom curricula. The residencies are individually designed to meet the needs of any K-12 classroom. Examples of previous residencies include:

  • “Untangling the Language of Romeo & Juliet” (9th graders explore Shakespeare through acting)

  • “Page to Stage: Building Reading Skills through Drama” (K-5 students explore the connections between drama and reading)

  • “Voices of Our People” (K-5 students explore world languages through drama and music)

  • “Exploring American History through Musical Theatre” (K-5 students personalize history through song and dance)
